For eight years, the residents of Sderot, Israel have been terrorized by daily rocket attacks fired by Hamas and other terrorist factions operating in neighboring Gaza. These constant attacks have crippled Sderot's economy and society but the ones who have suffered the most are the city's children.

Unable to play outside or go to school without fearing for their lives, the children are being denied their innocence.

Yaldeinu's Purim Drive for the Children of Sderot saw hundreds of youth in Toronto and Montreal take action and mobilize for their peers in Israel.

Greeting Cards Mifgash Program

In a show of solidarity, Canadian youth sold and sent Yaldeinu greeting cards to the Children of Sderot in time for Purim, showing their support and young Jews unified by a common purpose and heritage in this world.

Jewish day schools, synagogues and youth groups participated in this urgent appeal. Such institutions included the Leo Baeck Day School of Toronto, the Hebrew Academy of Montreal, Or Haemet Sephardic School, Beth Radom Congregation, Petah Tikva Congregation, Aish Hatorah and Hasbara Fellowhsips.

These cards were hand delivered by the Hon. Irwin Cotler, MP for Mount Royal and former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada on Yaldeinu's behalf. The program was carried out in partnership with UJA Federation of Greater Toronto.

Purim Benefit for Sderot

In partnership with various Jewish organizations and young adult community groups, the Purim Benefit for Sderot, held at Empire Nightclub in Toronto raised in excess of $5000 for the children of that embattled city. Funds raised were earmarked for Yaldeinu's camping activities in Sderot and the Coby Mandel Foundation.

The Benefit was sponsored by MASA Israel which enables young Jews to spend time in Israel on educational and meaningful programs and held in conjunction with the Birthright Alumni Community and Hillel of Greater Toronto.
